ingredients:
- 3/4 cup unsweetened coconut milk
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4 whole cardamom (not pods)
- 1 star anise
- 3 whole black peppercorn
- 2 whole cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1/2 inch fresh ginger, thinly sliced
- 1 black tea bag
- 1 teaspoon terra matcha organic culinary matcha
- 2 oz hot water (~176°F/80°C)
- 1/2 teaspoon maple syrup
- 1/2 cup frothed unsweetened almond or oat milk
directions:
- in a small pot, mix the coconut milk, spices, and ginger and bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
- reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.
- remove from the heat, add the tea bag, and cover with a lid. let it steep for 3 minutes.
- meanwhile, prepare the matcha by whisking it with hot water using a bamboo whisk.
- pour the chai tea mixture into a cup through a strainer.
- add the maple syrup and prepared matcha and mix well.
- top it off with the frothed milk and serve immediately.
